Shoulder Pain FAQ

Our Advanced Family Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Answers Shoulder Pain FAQ's

Shoulder pain is a significant health concern for most Americans. Although the shoulder is a movable joint, it is highly unstable due to its range of motion, making it susceptible to joint injury. At Advanced Family Chiropractic and Rehabilitation in Imperial, we have skilled chiropractors who treat a variety of shoulder joint problems. Here are some of the frequently asked questions regarding shoulder pain.

Which Are the Main Causes of Shoulder Pain?

Shoulder pain may result from different health conditions such as:

1. Dislocated Shoulder

In an ordinary shoulder dislocation, an external force pulls your shoulder outward causing the humerus ball to slip out of your shoulder's socket. It is common when the force pulls your arm backward suddenly, therefore, preventing the muscles from resisting. Shoulder instability is a condition in which shoulder dislocation frequently occurs while a subluxation is a partial dislocation of the upper arm.

2. Shoulder Bursae

Shoulder bursae are small sacs filled with synovial fluid which minimizes friction in the shoulder joint. Bursa irritation and inflammation occur if the sacs swell. It causes discomfort as it reduces the shoulder's mobility.

3. Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis occurs when an injury causes immense pain that hinders you from moving your shoulder. Also, it may result from shoulder surgery and rheumatic disease. Unusual tissue bands grow on the joint surfaces, therefore, reducing mobility. It leads to the production of insufficient synovial fluid.

Others causes include:

  • Rotator Cuff Injury
  • Strains & Sprains
  • Tendinitis

How Does Tendinitis Result in Severe Shoulder Pain?

Tendinitis is an inflammation of a specific Rendon. If it occurs in the shoulder, the biceps tendon and rotator cuff swell due to excess pressure from adjacent structures. If left untreated, tendinitis can adversely affect the rotator cuff. The acromion can trap it if it swells and thickens.

How are Shoulder Strains and Sprains Treated?

When a tendon or muscle in your shoulder tears, it causes a strain while if a ligament stretches, it leads to a sprain. Strains and sprains often result from fatigue and poor conditioning. Chiropractors recommend placing ice cubes on the affected part and taking sufficient rest. They repair torn ligaments and muscles.

Why Do Shoulder Dislocations Occur Frequently?

In an ordinary shoulder dislocation, an external force pulls your shoulder outward causing the humerus ball to slip out of your shoulder's socket. It is common when the force pulls your arm backward suddenly, therefore, preventing the muscles from resisting. Shoulder instability is a condition in which shoulder dislocation frequently occurs while a subluxation is a partial dislocation of the upper arm.

How Can A Chiropractor Help in Treating Shoulder Pain?

Our chiropractors apply spinal manipulations and adjustments to other body parts to realign joints and bones to minimize pain, improve balance, coordination and function. A chiropractor can recommend specific exercises to increase your shoulder's flexibility and strength.
