Office Ergonomics and Treating Neck Pain

Our chiropractor at Advanced Family Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in Imperial provides a world-class chiropractic care experience to patients in the tri-state area. But, outside of the chiropractic office, there are numerous tips and behaviors you should consider changing to improve your posture and decrease back pain.

Chances are that you work in an office setting. Even if you don't, you undoubtedly spend hours every day looking down at your cell phone or a computer of some kind. Over time these habits will lead to problems down the road such as neck pain or poor posture. However, our chiropractor understands how to stop these problems from occurring in the first place.

Tips for Improving Your Posture

You should first begin by thinking about the objects used in your office. Consider your chair for example. You need a chair that offers proper back support according to the unique curve of your spine. The chair should also be at a height that allows your feet to rest flat on the ground.

If you speak on the phone often, consider getting a Bluetooth headset or putting it on speaker. Try not to cradle the phone between your head and neck as this can cause tremendous pain. Then there is your desk. A desk that sits too low will cause you to look slightly downward all day long and in conjunction with a chair that is too high, could lead to more neck and back problems over time. Even with this advice, it's still easy to end up with pain and discomfort because of our modern office lifestyles.
